Apple iPad Pro

iPad Pro – More Powerful than Ever?

On September 9th 2015, Apple presented its new model in Ipads; the Ipad Pro. This new Ipad is of 12.9 inches and 4k high resolution retina display which has a considerable change over the 9.7 inches that previous versions had. Additionally a new full sized keyboard and Apple Pencil are now available, in order to enhance function ability of the new Apple’s device.
Consequently even though larger and sharper display, the Apple’s keyboard and pencil, high processing speed, new multitasking function are definitely some of the significant benefits offered to consumers, it is also important to take into account that Ipad pro carries some underlying defects:

1. There is a limited range of apps available

It’s obvious that establishing additional features such as increasing display size, creating a pen and keyboard, Apple targets a wider audience. In contrast how many apps are available for special users like architectures, civil engineers etc? This implies that there is a limited number of applications to be used by special targeted groups and therefore there may be a need in the future for more apps to be optimized and be able to use Ipad’s full capabilities.

2. Costly

It is commonly known that all apple products are slightly expensive but having a starting price of $799 is a bit too much. The upgrades available on $949 and $1,049 for 128 GB and Cellular respectively. All these prices , even the starting price ,are considered to be expensive for buying a tablet. Comparing with the competitor’s android devices, the competitor’s prices are lower. Also in Play store you can find almost two million apps. That’s half a million more applications than Apple’s app store which makes Apple’s price even less representative to what it offers.

3. Lack of Ports

It’s not a surprise for apple products to be unable to connect to other devices but indeed buyers do need more connections to plug a USB or even some peripherals. It’s an $800 device which cannot even accept a USB flash drive. You cannot transfer a file from your device to another device without being online neither. It’s true there are many online file hosting services where you can place your files and transfer them wherever you want but many people just prefer the traditional way.

4. Pen and Keyboard sold separate

“Apple Pencil opens up new creative possibilities” as Apple says. Thanks to the sensitivity in pressure it gives you the opportunity to make a wide range of artist effects. Furthermore smart keyboard can make typing more comfortable and facilitates people who type often, to be faster. However Apple Pencil and smart keyboard are sold separately from the Ipad. So combining them together it costs $799 for the cheapest version of Ipad, $99 for Apple Pencil and $169 for Smart keyboard which gives a total of $1,067. On the other hand, by spending $1100 you can buy a laptop or even a Personal Computer with better specifications, more memory, faster processor and greater abilities.

5. Larger Size, less portable

The initial purpose of a tablet is to be portable. In my opinion, anything over 10 inches is more like a notebook and less like a tablet. A larger size of display may be good but a 12.9 inches tablet does not bring consumer in the advantageous position of carrying it easily. Instead a 7 or even a 9inch tablet would be more practical.
