Google’s Self Driving Car : What are its drawbacks?

Is it really autonomous indeed?

Google’s self driving car revealed itself and here and a while is hitting the roads of Mountain View in California. Google is definitely doing a fantastic job and the project is always in progress. They keep trying to challenge and improve their software in order to optimize it to the best. But as it seems, the car is not so ready to be completely autonomous.

According to a report released by the California Department of Motor Vehicles recently, Google’s self driving car would have hit something inevitably for at least 13 occasions. In the particular testing, that happened in California for 14 months and ended at November of 2015, human needed to take over the control for 341 times. When they later simulated these incidents to work on them the simulators showed that 13 of the recorded incidents were going to inevitably cause an accident without the interaction of human. In fact, according the report another 272 times from those 371, human interaction was needed due to a failure of the autonomous technology installed.

In the end of the day, what we understand from this report is that autonomous vehicles are not mature yet. There is a long way yet in order to be a completely mature concept that will do things better and safer in our roads. Of course, self driving cars are an upcoming technology, maybe for some the hottest upcoming technology and progress will be made. We are all certain for this. There are a lot of competitors from car industry and software industry and they are already trying to give us a taste for how the future car is going to be. Google is trying with its self driving car, Volkswagen with its Budd-e and among with other companies like Tesla, Apple, Nissan, Toyota in the field we need to prepare our selves and just sit back and watch the car evolution.
