First things first, let’s talk about what’s happening right now. Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 are becoming a big deal. A recent paper by OpenAI (source) has some pretty wild stats that might make you go, “Whoa, what’s happening here?”

The Numbers Don’t Lie (But They Might Scare You a Bit)

So here’s the deal: Around 80% of the U.S. workforce could see at least 10% of their work tasks affected by LLMs. That’s like, your neighbor, your barista, your teacher, and maybe even you! It’s not just a small change; it’s a wave that could ripple through almost every job out there.

Microsoft and Apple might be two competitive giants when it comes to innovation and technology products, but what happens when these two companies join forces for a “greater cause”  for students, education and productivity? As soon as I got the iPad Pro 10.5 and the Apple Pencil I started searching for the best note-taking app available on the AppStore for a University student like me. After trying many apps like Goodnotes, Evernote, Notability and Notes Plus I was surprised to find out that OneNote was the best fit (for me). This is the BadFive’s review of the Microsoft OneNote app on the Apple iPad Pro & Apple Pencil.

FEATURES

Cloud sync & backup

The OneNote app for iOS packs a bunch of useful features that take note-taking to the next level. First and foremost , cloud sync and backup. OneDrive is Microsoft’s cloud storage service and it works seamlessly with OneNote. Every time a change is made, OneDrive will automatically sync and back up all the data, in real time, to ensure it’s safety , when an internet connection is available. That enables the user to share, view or edit their notes on the go and even access them from a different device using only their Microsoft account. On top of that the user can easily share their notes with friends and coworkers , in view only or edit mode.

Pdf printout and Insert space

PDF Printout is one of my favorite features I personally use every time I take notes. It lets you “digitally print” PDF, Word or Power Point files right into the note-taking space. On these “digital pages” the user can annotate , highlight or even type. OneNote on iOS 11 lets the user to import a file using the Files App. That simply means native support for  cloud files  (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Dropbox etc) and on device storage.

“Insert space” is another great feature and guess what?! It does what you would imagine. Insert space lets the user create space by simply pushing everything up or down. It just works ! There is no need for manually selecting and moving note elements one by one . (easy peasy lemon squeezy :p )

Using the Apple Pencil with the OneNote app elevates the whole note-taking experience to a whole new level. Combining the accuracy of the Apple Pencil and “Draw” mode on OneNote, the user can use pens and highlighters in order to create wonderful notes. The tip width and the color of the pen or highlighter are fully customizable. Draw mode is definitely meant for the Pencil. (P.S. there are some  glittery pens that everyone has to try out).

Conclusion

To sum everything up, using the Apple Pencil transforms OneNote into a digital paper that automatically syncs and backups everything. Documents and other files are “printed” on digital pages and the user can annotate on top of or next to them. Packed with many features, this combination brings out the elegance of Apple products and the power of Microsoft productivity tools all in one for one of the best note taking experience, for education, for businesses, for the world.

Apple will be releasing the full version of macOS Mojave later this fall. If you, like so many others, can’t wait until October to get your hands on the latest version of macOS, then you can try out the beta that just came out.

Just a reminder

Although you might be excited and can’t wait to try out features like, Dark Mode, iOS apps on your Mac, the new developer kits and more, you have to keep in mind that this is beta software. Having said that, you should expect to encounter bugs, glitches and a lot of lag in some cases.

If you don’t have a huge problem with coming against bugs from now and then, you can download the public beta from Apple’s website. The only thing you have to do is sing up for the beta program and enroll your Mac. After doing that, macOS Mojave will become available on the App store for you to download.

Apple has recently announced some of the features it will include in the latest version of iOS, also known as iOS 12. As we mentioned before, Apple is recently trying to improve the performance of iOS, instead of just adding a bunch of cool features, as it always does. But still, there are a few features that will be included in the newest version of iOS which could assist you during the day.

Screen Time

Maybe one of the most important features and also a favourite of mine is the “Screen Time”. Screen time is basically a monitoring system of your device’s usage. It can track the time you spend using a specific app. The company developed new tools to make the users aware of the time they spend using apps and websites. The iOS can now generate some daily and weekly Activity Reports for several things like the amount of time spent in Social Networking, Entertainment or Productivity apps. This also includes a graph with your activity throughout the day, the longest session you had by using your device in general etc.

New tools are also developed for limiting the daily usage of specific apps and websites through the system. In that way the users would be notified when the limit is reached as a method of rehabilitation on their addiction to the digital world.

Set Downtimes

Downtime is another useful tool in which you can set specific times during the day where you wish block any apps and notifications from disturbing you. This can make you more calm and relaxed when you most need it. For example, you may consider setting up Downtime during bedtime.

Kids applicable

As a parent, you can find those kind of tools very useful. You can set limits for your kids, without hearing complaints. This will also help you to avoid transforming your kids into digital-world addicted persons. You can also monitor their usage from afar. Definitely adding exceptions for apps or websites in these occasions is a must. For example, you want your child to constantly have access to calls and messaging in order to be able to reach you at any time.

A feature that will “save lives”

In my opinion, this feature can save lives, because it changes the perspective on how we use our devices and makes us aware of how much we’re addicted to them. There are a tone of things to do outhere; in the real world. Being aware of our digital addictions, is the first step to a balanced, normal life

Have you tried unlocking your device, when suddenly everything disappeared from the interface? Touch screen didn’t respond to your commands? Did you find it difficult to get the keyboard to come up when you’re supposed to send an important message? Camera couldn’t manage to capture quickly an amazing moment in your life? Having any Apple device with iOS 11 installed, all of us have faced a lot of those issues .

Looking back at the past, I believe that Apple succeeded in bringing the worst of the iOS with iOS 11. Suffering from a big number of bugs, glitches and non-responsive moments, iOS 11 is definitely the most hateful version of our iPhones and iPads.

Is iOS 12 becoming one of the best versions yet?

Since the latest Apple WWDC, which was carried out on the 4th of June, Apple seems really determined and focused on improving performance and stability of iOS, instead of just throwing random features on it. Fortunately, recent iOS 12 beta testing shows that the performance has indeed improved in several aspects. Actually, during the beta testing, some of the testers even said they haven’t faced any bugs or lag. This is something nearly impossible if we consider that it is only a beta version of what we expect. As most of us know, it’s natural for a beta version to come with a large amount of issues.

Talk to me about numbers

Apple mentioned on its website some specific performance metrics to present how fast the iOS 12 has become. They presented just a few of them as follows: Up to 70% faster swipe to Camera, 50% faster keyboard display and 2x faster app launch under heavy workload.

Get things done, automated, faster without any obstacles, is the first principle which every tech company has to follow. Will Apple succeed in building the best iOS version until today? Many people were sad to see Vine die after Twitter’s decision to kill off the famous app. But not everyone was able to let go. Many of its former users kept the “vine spirit” alive by continuing to share their creations, on different platforms. One of the people that refused to let go, was Vine’s founder, Dom Hofmann.

It’s been known for a while now,that Hofmann has been working on a new version of Vine, “v2”. Although the new app is basically Vine’s comeback, there isn’t any official association with the old app since Twitter still owns the rights. For this reason, Hofmann said that we shouldn’t be calling this new app, “Vine 2”.

we’ve been trying to make v2 happen for over half a year. no one was supportive. 54 days ago i tweeted about it, without a plan, to force the issue.

• Videos will be at most 6.5 seconds and no less than 2 seconds
• Will include a “Team” feature to collaborate with other artists as one
• You will be able to upload from your camera roll
• Videos will have preloaded thumbnails
• You will be able to record in full screen
• Camera will automatically flip while recording
• Gender pronouns as top level profile feature
  

Although we don’t know an official release date, it is expected to launch its’ beta version sometime in 2018. If you want to be one of its’ first users or you’re looking to reserve a specific username, all you have to do is stay tuned with the progress of the app by actively participating in its’ official community.

If you’re a daily Instagram user, like I am, you’re most likely in love with the photo editing capabilities of the app, but most importantly, with their amazing filters. You can adjust the appearance of your photo in multiple different ways, so it can fit any mood.

But, what if you want to use those filters on your blog or website? Sure you can use photoshop to edit your photos but that’s too much trouble. Up until now you would have to use Instagram to edit your photos, then save them before finally uploading them to your website. Well, there’s no longer a need for any of that since you can now simply use Instagram.css

Instagram.css is an open CSS stylesheet that you can use in any of your websites. You just need to include it on your project and that’s it. It allows you to use Instagram filters on your website’s photos simply by changing their class. It’s worth mentioning that this project is built on pure CSS, therefore it does not use any scripts that would cause your website to slow down. You can use the app..but

If you are eager to know what famous art piece is your counterpart, you can do so by downloading the app that is openly available on the App store and Google Play. Unfortunately, many users have reported that although the app is pretty interesting itself, the famous feature is only available in some regions. I guess sharing your selfie-famous-art match isn’t for everyone.
