Huawei is the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer with most of their sales taking place in the market of China. Huawei’s efforts to reach the western market have proven fruitless so far mostly due to their overall design and EMUI skin, which has gotten a lot of heat because of its similarities to iPhone’s iOS.

Huawei wants to go global as soon as possible, that’s why they’ve hired a former Apple designer who worked with developing iOS 1 to completely overhaul its’ EMUI to become more user friendly ,with a new colour pallet but without altering any of the features that the western public loves.

Huawei’s Secret OS Project

On top of working on EMUI 5.0 skin for Android, Huawei has also been working on developing its’ own OS, just like Samsung’s Tizen OS, in case things go sour with Google. This doesn’t mean that Huawei is planning to abandon Android anytime soon. On the contrary, desiring to go global forces the company to stick to Android. Building an independent OS is more like a precautionary measure. Huawei wants to have a backup plan in case Google decides to limit the capabilities of Android or change it in a way that doesn’t fit Huawei’s culture.

The secret OS project is still in its infancy, and is being developed by a team in Scandinavia that includes former Nokia engineers. Although we don’t know more information about the bases which this new OS will be built on, we expect that it won’t tilt to far from Android.

Elegant and Poor

When Huawei and Google decided to make a new Nexus product, nothing went well. Nexus is a very promising series of smartphones which Google produces in collaboration with other big companies in the field of smartphones. Google advertises Huawei Nexus 6P as the ultimate android experience. “Always fresh, best in mobile. -From the folks who built Android.” Hey “folks”, just read below and look what you’ve done!

1. Muffled voice, poor call quality

This issue can be found in nearly every users’ report. They have spotted the call quality to be very poor and the other side is hearing a muffled or very quiet voice. This may be caused by the sensitivity of the rear-mounted microphone which is used for noise cancellation.

2. Connectivity issues

Another common problem of many smartphones out there that Nexus 6P got jealous to have. The connectivity issues are basically problems with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Bluetooth gets really annoying, especially, when you try to connect your Nexus 6P to Bluetooth speakers, the car or the smartwatches.

3. Spontaneously cracked the glass

There is a top rear glass as a cover lane for the camera and flash of the smartphone. This is the worst and the most usual issue that many users faced in different strange ways. Some of them found their Nexus 6P rear glass cracked just after resting on a table. Others, found it cracked after their flight. It can be cracked without even touch it. This is ridiculous and makes it seem so fragile and cheap.

4. Yellow Screen

The 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Samsung AMOLED display is outstanding but not as durable as expected. There are a few reports from users, complaining about a yellow hue or tint on the screen. Nexus 6P is not the only one with that problem, as there are also some reports about Nexus 5 having a blue tint and a cold look. Is this a “Nexus” plague?

5. Bends like a banana

After Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus bendgate scandal, Huawei is following with her eyes closed! In November, we’ve saw a bunch of photos showing Nexus 6P bent like a banana. Comparing Nexus 6P with iPhone 6 Plus, they are both very thin and large in scale. As a smartphone, Nexus 6P isn’t more fragile than any other big smartphone. Just don’t push it to its limits and be kind with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Huawei Honor 7 is an elegant looking smartphone with a bit of a high class feeling at an affordable price

Huawei Honor 7 is an elegant looking smartphone with a bit of a high class feeling at an affordable price. The new smartphone of Huawei is a so called mid-level smartphone. It basically offers a variety of features that flagship phones offer but at a much lower price. It sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Unfortunately the Honor 7 comes with not a few cons, some of which we discuss in our BadFive review.

1. Rough and Unfinished UI

The first thing users notice after using the phone is the sluggish interface. Honor 7 steers away from the stock Android Lollipop making the majority of its users feel uncomfortable. This direction Huawei chose to follow have led to a rough UI for its users. The interface feels unfinished and it takes some time getting used to. Honor’s custom UI offers some unique features but it tends to get sluggish sometimes. Slow response times are a fact for many of this smartphone’s features.

2. Camera App Needs Serious Improvements

Although the design and the build quality of Honor 7 are quite nice, the software side of the phone is not so good. Honor’s smartphone offers a great camera with a great performance except from some cases of low light conditions. Unfortunately though I feel like this camera is wasted. The possibilities it offers are many but the software Huawei has built doesn’t make full use of them. The camera app is very limited and in order to satisfy the full power of the hardware camera, the software needs to improve as soon as possible.

3. Fingerprint Scanner Media

Honor 7 offers a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone making it feel odd. We are used to having fingerprint scanners at the front so it is definitely something new. A drawback I see to this decision is that in order to use the fingerprint scanner you have to hold the phone, something you normally wouldn’t have to do if the fingerprint scanner was at the front of the smartphone. You also have to note that, according to its users, Honor’s fingerprint scanner doesn’t produce an accurate result 100% of the time.

4. Audio Quality is Quite Low

The speaker of honor’s 7 smartphone is below average. It produces medium sounding audio. It is not as loud as it should have been. Compared to its competitors at the mid-level of the smartphone industry, honor 7 underperforms at this field.

5. Poor Gaming Performance

The Huawei Honor 7 should put a sign right at the top of their phone saying: “Warning! Not for gamers!!! Because it literally isn’t at any chance for gamers. It offers very low graphic performance and it can only satisfy simple games like Candy crush. So, do I recommend this smartphone for gamers? No, I definitely don’t.

Huawei P8 Lite made a lot of buzz when it was first released

Huawei P8 Lite lies in the category of the Budget Smartphones. With an excellent battery life and a cost of only $250 Huawei P8 Lite made a lot of buzz when it was first released. In our surprise we struggled to find serious issues with this smartphone but in the end we managed to create the BadFive list for this fellow.

1. Bad Display

Almost every user of the Huawei P8 Lite had the same complaint: “The display simply isn’t good enough”. We strongly agree with this complain and we consider it a huge disadvantage over its competitors. At one time, a 720 p display might have been good enough but in 2015 it is disappointing. Huawei should have known that a display of 1080p is a predefined minimum for the users. Failing to reach the barrier of 1080 p could result in many future buyers of this smartphone to think twice before buying it.

2. Mediocre Headset Sound Quality

Although Huawei P8 Lite appears to have a decent speaker it seems to be struggling with the sound quality of the headset. The quality of the sound coming from the headset has been characterized by many as awful. This is considered a huge drawback for users who want to use this phone to listen to music for various activities. Hello? Huawei? Are you listening? No with this Headset sound quality, you are definitely not!!!

3. Shipped With Android KitKat

This seems to be bothering a lot of users although we consider it to be a medium problem since you might be able to upgrade to Android Lollipop in the future. It made it to our BadFive list because it is a complaint of the majority of the users and for the fact that it is unsure whether you will be able to upgrade to future versions of lollipop as well.

4. Dual Sim – Not So Much

We find this very irritating because Huawei has advertised a lot that Huawei P8 Lite has the feature of the dual sim. They emphasized on this feature but they forgot to mention that you can only use two SIM cards when you are NOT using an SD card since the slot of the second SIM is common with the microSD slot. Arrrg! So irritating!!!

5. Sluggish performance

This is the last thing to our BadFive list because it was really expected. On average this smartphone has great performance but there are sometimes that there is noticeable lag when opening apps or when you are scrolling.
