Did you ever bake a cake accidentally using salt instead of sugar and then tasted it expecting something amazing? Well…you see the analogy. 2016 was bad. These games made it slightly more disappointing.

No Man’s Sky

Covered extensively in one of our previous articles, No Man’s Sky is easily one of the most disappointing things about 2016 after terrorist attacks, people dying and the awkward new Toblerone shape. False advertising, radio silence from the developers and an update that still didn’t make the game what it was supposed to be.

VR ‘experiences’

VR was supposed to revolutionize gaming. Instead it fell flat on its face once again. Sony is offering the least pricey version that still costs a lot of moola. Simply put, VR is still too young for fully-fledged games and gamers have to settle for these ‘VR experiences’ which are essentially glorified tech demos of much better non-VR games.

Mighty No. 9

The supposed spiritual successor to Mega Man, just like many Kickstarter-funded indie games before it has been nothing short of disappointing. It had a bad artistic 3D direction looking incredibly dated by 2016’s standards, uninspiring gameplay and felt rushed.

Pokemon GO

Pokemon Go is not a bad game, but it sure disappointed us. It felt rushed, it was marred with server problems, glitches and updates that feel like one step forward and two steps back. It was clearly made for people that live in large cities and felt like a completely different game for people in rural areas or smaller countries.

Star Fox Zero

While the game itself isn’t bad, what disappointed us were Nintendo’s decisions in terms of control. The game was divisive in its learning curve and this ultimately resulted in lower sales figures. We expected more from a company that usually makes games accessible by everyone. Let’s hope the franchise recovers and that it doesn’t take Nintendo 10 years to release another Star Fox.
